Music Together Program

What Makes This Program Different From Other Programs?

Music Together® promotes the idea of "making music together as a family" in an informal setting rather than a performance based program where the child is required to meet certain expectations. The curriculum has been reseached and tested and not only been in exsistence for 20 years but is constantly being evaluated and improved upon to ensure that the songs and movements help enhance children's music development.

The class takes place in an environment where no expectations for achievement are placed upon the child. Furthermore, we do not expect to teach young children knowledge "about" music. After a great deal of experience making and listening to music without any formal demands put upon them, children are then ready to understand such concepts as high/low, loud/soft, singing in tune, and accurately keeping a beat. Once they have had a chance to make music through their own play, they will be able to sort out such adult concepts as the basic elements of pitch and rhythm. Very young children really learn best when given the chance to experiment and play on their own.

As Paverotti so eloquently said:

"I was an elementary school teacher.  If children are not introduced to music at an early age, I believe  something fundamental is actually being taken from them. Why should [music] be elite? Excuse me. Music must be for everybody. Learning music by reading about it is like making love by mail."
